In March 2017, the internal institutional reform of the College of Tropical Crops, based on the former Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, to carry out the relevant disciplines converted into the Department of Landscape Architecture and Construction Engineering.

The department aims to build a high-quality technical skill department with "moderate scale, reasonable structure, outstanding advantages, and obvious characteristics," facing the national rural revitalization strategy and the major realistic needs of the green transformation and comprehensive reform strategy of the national unity and progress demonstration area of Yunnan Province, the leader of ecological civilization construction and the radiation center facing South and Southeast Asia. Focusing on the new demand for professional talents in the field of urban and rural habitat environment and village infrastructure construction engineering, the university is committed to cultivating technical and skilled engineering talents with strong industry background knowledge and engineering practice ability, who are competent for the development needs of the industry, with equal emphasis on character and education, knowledge and ability, and application and innovation, to build a regional engineering and technical skill talent with "outstanding advantages in application research direction and characteristics of talent cultivation." It will be a base for cultivating engineering and technical skills talents with outstanding advantages in applied research direction and distinctive characteristics in personnel training.

The department has two undergraduate majors in Landscape Architecture, two undergraduate majors in Civil Engineering and Engineering Costing, five specialist majors in Landscape Engineering Technology, Architectural Design, Engineering Costing, Construction Engineering Management, and Leisure Agriculture Operation and Management, a master's degree authorization point in Landscape Architecture and Ornamental Horticulture and a master's degree authorization point in Landscape Architecture jointly with the College of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, and a master's degree authorization point in Tropical Crops and Food Engineering. Together.

Construction of professional degree master's point of forestry. The department has perfect teaching and training conditions, including engineering measurement training room, model training room, manual model training room, engineering drawing training room, engineering cost training room, architectural decoration comprehensive training room, art training room, engineering materials training room, professional computer room, etc. There are also more than 700 square meters of the garden seedling greenhouse, more than 400 square meters of landscape gardening, and an architectural engineering construction training field. It is a provincial demonstration internship and training teaching base for garden production. In order to further deepen the school-enterprise cooperation and internal construction, the school cooperates deeply with more than 20 enterprises and institutions to build a platform for students' internship and employment, to build a good environment for the formation of students' comprehensive ability of vocational positions, and to achieve a seamless match between talent training and industry (enterprise) job requirements.

There are 21 full-time teachers in the department, including 2 professors, 5 associate professors, 33.3% of senior titles, 1 person with overseas study experience, 20 part-time teachers with industry background and various national registration certificates such as national-level registered structural engineer, first-class registered architect, first-class registered construction engineer, registered cost engineer and registered consultant. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, a number of teaching and research achievements have been made, and 12 projects have been established at the school level or above. The department has published 7 SCI / EI papers, 6 national patents, edited 6 textbooks and books, and guided students to win many prizes in provincial competitions and above.

The department focuses on vocational, undergraduate education, develops graduate education focusing on landscape architecture and forestry, and actively promotes international education with 1,725 full-time students.
